Her first appearance on television was in the 1990s and then in movies like The Woods. Bruckner began her career at the age of 11. She appeared in two television pilots and the drama for daytime, The Bold and the Beautiful, in 1999. The first time she played a lead character took place as a lead in Blue Car (2002), an independent movie in which she played a girl who had an affair David Strathairn as her high school teacher. Roger Ebert said that Bruckner performed the role with aplomb. Bruckner received nominations for the Independent Spirit Award for "Best female role in a film" in this part. She grew up with three siblings, one brother and two sister. Hungarian was the first language she learned and she practiced it regularly to guarantee the fluency. Bruckner was born in Hollywood California to a Hungarian father as well as a Russian mother. They later divorced. Her paternal grandfather is German. Her parents are Budapest-born parents who came to Hungary. Her family emigrated into the U.S.A. via an Italian refugee camp in 1984. She has two brothers and have two sisters.
